UNKLE - Self Defence - Never Never Land Reconstructed And Bonus Beats (UK)

Some (if not all) of the tracks in this package were released as 12" vinyls at one point or another, so packaging them together in CD form makes sense for your average fan and If you managed to catch UNKLE Sounds when they toured for Never Never Land, then you will be familiar with most of these tracks so the release will find a welcomed place in your collection.

Taking each remix individually you will find that most are well done and reflect the talent and songwriting ability of both remixer and UNKLE. However, I was disappointed by the bare minimum of effort that RJD2 and Sasha seemed to put in considering their individual songwriting abilities; they could have well been left out of the equation, but this is a compilation of Never Never Land Reconstructions so that's moot.

Standout remixes include DFA, Evil 9, both DanF remixes (if you are into that sort of thing) and Three AM's Black Swan Vocal Mix. The inclusion of the "original" UNKLE tracks was a nice addition even though they really only are reconstructs of vocal interludes from the main album.

Of notable mention is the remixes of Burn My Shadow which at the point of this release wasn't available anywhere normally.

One final interesting note is Track 1 on Disc 3, there is a constructed vocal which mentions "When you listen to Never Never Land, use headphones in the dark" which puzzled me. Maybe I should try it.
