Urban Tribe ‎– Urban Tribe

This release is not bad but its not what it should be considering the names involved. I will have to agree with Mark_Anthony. The tracks are too short and the time is not enough for the track to evolve. The sound is minimal and although I like quite a few styles of minimal music I still find this one a bit "empty". In my opinion the Urban Tribe 12" released the same year is far better.
If you want an intro to Urban Tribe music try the Rephlex releases, these are pure gold :)

This record seems to have polarized its listeners in the same way that Andres album did previously on Mahogani. Some, including myself would argue that the tracks are too short. For my tastes, they are, but then again I knew what I was getting myself into when I saw twelve tracks squeezed on to one plate. The release is somewhat of a tease. For example, track A1 is one heck of a thumping stormer but with a total duration under three minutes, I could not make much use of this via long blending unless I had my cycloops aka pvdj grabber by my side. I'm not opposed to using a looper to make a point but I dont feel I should have to either. Other great tracks on this album that would have made excellent singles on their own are tracks A5, B2, and B5. At least track A5 made it past the three minute mark.

I enjoy the cover art for both the inner and outersleeves. Its a very cool color concept and there's a lot of imagery to take in if you take the time to scope it all out. Overall the LP has very little flow from one track to the next. It makes for a good appetizer but its certainly not a meal.
