What a lovely smooth ride this mix is. I have a soft spot for Guidance Records anyway. No other Chicago Deep House Label had so many good records out, till they stretched out into other styles and somehow went from top to bottom.
Don't worry ! None of that ecclectic stuff is chosen here - many of the stone cold Classics are. To name only a few : Dubtribe Sound System's - 'Regalo D'Amor' , no other tune on Guidance had that sunny easy going vibe as this spanish lullabye. Axus - 'Baghdad Cafe' with the unforgettable vocals of Naomi N'Sembi, Glenn Underground's masterpiece "Jaz Love #2", Callisto's daring "Str8 Up" and last but not least Mutabarka with "Dis Poem" - "This Poem Shall Be Continued In Your Mind.." - Awesome stuff, mixed in a unhurried, expertly manner by Chris Brann & DJ Shifty aKa Ananda Project. Some excellent transitions putting together 2 parts from ecellent Trax and creating a beautiful vibe with just enough drive, so that you could dance to it. But this is of course not just another Dance Mix, but a mixed Compilation of the best Chicago Label the late 90ies had to offer. Cd 1 deserves the highest rating - 5 Stars - no doubt .
Cd 2 is a wee bit smoother and that melodic; but it still has a lot of charme and with trax by Miguel Migs, Julius Papp or Jask, (who did the mix here) there is also enough quality selected and the mix is even smoother. This material was lifted from LARGE Records, another quality Deep House imprint from Chicago who concentrated more on a smoother Vibe with more complex arrangements.
