Reviews & Discussion

Rated 2/5

Things start decent on the upbeat disc 2. Jaia's Sentences would rock me at a festival and upto and including M.W.N.N.s Infernal Machine remix I'm generally damn well entertained.

Unfortunately, this is where this cd crash and burn for me. There is NOTHING on the remaining tracks 5 to 9 that interest me. Even The Delta lets me down badly with the incorporation of the most hideous guitar samples. And in the F242 track I awaited anxiously to hear, the vocals sound toecrumbling embarrasing.

No, this time around it's the downbeat cd that catches my attention. This is considerably more interesting, with its dub inspiration and laid back approach. Hell, some of the tracks here even outweighs the disappointment of cd 1. Well, almost.

For me this is THE Golden Formula of a psychedelic compilation: 1 disc with Chill-out & Trance. Both are a nice mix of big names & less wellknown artists, but all of high qualitiy. After having it on CD-R for years, I had a pretty hard time gettign hold of an original copy, but it was well worth the effort.
The Downbeat chapter features timeless gems like "Things Can Change", the classic "Behind Closed Eyelids"
& one of my all time fav chillout-tunes: Gabriel Le Mar's "One O' Seven" Perfect soundtrack for some serious smoking.
The Trance disc contains some real killer tracks aswell, although most of them are widely available on other comp's too. The thing that makes it special is the mixture of different styles here.
My fav's are Jaïa's "Sentences To Heaven" (great samples & FX), MWNN's RMX of Postford's Infernal Machine (great haunting melody) & a superb dancefloor version of Front 242's Headhunter. But there's also Spiralkinda for those who like it hard & The Delta (with one of their best tracks ever).
Great compilation that stood the test of time pretty well IMHO.
