"Launderette" was co-produced by John "Rotten" Lydon. Then Vivien Goldman also worked with Sakamoto, Coldcut, Tricky,...
The Del/Byzanteens was nothing but Jim Jarmush's no wave band. Jarmush is now known for being one of the most respected NYC underground film maker (Permanent Vacation, ie).
Gray was founded by Jean-Michel Basquiat (the last painter of the 20th century?) and Michael Holman.
Death Comet Crew used to performed with pioneers of the early ny hiphop/graffiti scene such as Rammellzee(as released here) or Phase 2.
This record represents a unique and enthousiastic period of the NYC underground, when post-punks as the Ramones were hanging out at Mudd Club with nerd musicians such as Brian Eno, when photographs were actors and painters had illbient bands. Ghetto kids involved in graffiti were drinking beers with japanese fashion designers. And you could have a party in basement, a loft, a club or an art center. Nothing but attitude in its purest way, with no social barreers, real freaky poseurs, rockers, creators... The Gomma Team has done a great work with these gems from Counterculture History.
