Reviews & Discussion

Rated 3/5
Review by PabloPlato Aug 24, 2009
A good overview of some of the amazing sounds produced by the Superradio camp, although some of the most integral hits are ommitted in favour of some of the more obscure tracks (ie; Rose From Tokyo).

The Spacid edits are pretty good, the Super Shuffle edit has all sorts of odd and crazy shouts happening in the background but absolutely none of the "come like a butterfly, sting like a bee" lines. The Ali Shuffle edit creates a short break utilizing Venise's vocal sample usually heard at the begining ("do the shuffle baby") to great effect, as well as being used at the begining and at the end.

Playboy and Playboy La Nuit appear here in their original versions, (give or take a few seonds) thankfully!

Rose From Tokyo seems to fade out a bit earlier than the original, though not much is missed. The edit is an instrumental edit, though I would have muched perferred it had they not bothered putting it on, as it is not my favourite track and I really dont need an instrumental of it, i'd rather listen to the full length vocal if I must. (in my opinion this instrumental edit could have been scrapped in favour of including another Camaro's track such as an edit of one of the non-single tracks from the Decamerone album, like Maskarp-One, I Like Boys or the original Corn Flakes, or Barry Mason's Together.)

My biggest problem with this compilation though is the Matteo Ruzzon Edit of Roissy. What was originally a fragile, melancholy love song has been edited in order to make it more than 2 times the length of the original. I'm sure it must have sounded like a good idea on paper. On record it comes off incredibly awkward, with Matteo's edits competting against the natural awkwardness of Venise's broken english and thick accent. Previously endearing, in this incarnation Venise is irritating and sounds like a carricature of italo rather than the genuine article. The instrumentation also gets disrupted in really awkward manners that I really cant imagine dancing to this, let alone listening to it more than once. Absolutely Terrible.

The comp ends with another good edit from Spacid, for Atmosphere's Swede's Scandal, with plenty of Venise sprinkled throughout.

Not a bad comp, though if you are a Superradio fan & collector, you dont really need this one (as i'm sure you're likely to already own a copy of Camaro's Gang & Venise's Playboy singles). Don't get it for Roissy, save your cash for the original. Buy it only if you can't get the Rose from Tokyo and Swede's Scandal or if you're just starting to collect Superradio and want to get as many tracks at once.
