I totally agree with what LukeHandsfree said about these records they are very poor quality, which this label is renowned for. i brought my copy when i was alot younger & more nieve then i currently am. not just is the sound quality poor compared to the original singles but mine has a number defects. firstly the centre hole is too large which makes it impossible for mixing with, secondly the tunes have been printed back to front ie what should be the a side is in fact the b side & finally the b side on my record has scratches at the beginning of B1 which again makes it impossible to mix with. but worst of all is that its not second hand copy it was brought from a shop still sealed, which leads me to believe that it was pressed with these defects. anyways now that im alot wiser then when i picked this record up i wouldnt of brought it at all. however iv rated this release as 5 because every tune found here is a classic & my rating is for the tunes & not the pressing.

Should one see this record on Ebay, one would snap it up. All those classic tunes on one record? Great!

Not quite. The tracks are undoubtedly anthems, though the Hybrid remix doesn't fit with the rest of the tracks in terms of style and production values. The Fugees track is one that has been repressed a few times (all unofficially!) and can be picked up on a better press.

Which brings me on to the pressing quality. This is probably (just about) adequate for casual listening but certainly not good enough to play out... too quiet and lacking in clarity, and certainly not as good as the originals.

Save your money and grab the originals. Especially in the case of the dancefloor bomb that is '?ugees Or Not?'.

A Great compilation, another classic in the Black Velvet series.

These EP's quickly came to be legendary as they sourced the Original White Labels mixes for these 12"'s, later when the majors came along they got edited or later remade versions. Artists frequently losing the master tape in the time since and having to knock up a new version double quick.
So these are the gems!

Unfortunately they suffered from poor distribution as we found it very difficult to source them. As for the quality, well, no problems at all - it does play well and if you have a crap system then anything will sound crap.
This much is obvious.

Anyone looking for Digital quality versions are fooling themselves, bear in mind the originals were mostly recorded on bedroom equipment long before home studios became standard.
