This soundtrack was life-changing inasmuch as I never heard so many different genres work with each other so well. It was the first time I could think of "techno", industrial, and metal/grindcore working together. The album also introduced the world to The Cult's essential song, "The Witch", a track that is the lone survivor of a studio session they attempted with Rick Rubin for a new album.

Okay, all that aside, I'm mainly writing this review to suggest a new master. The original run has almost an entire second of "Real Cool World" cut off from "track 1" and is contained in the very beginning of "track 2", "Play with Me". So, to extract the songs for your personal use on a device, you have to do some manual re-recording and slicing and splicing. Just remaster and re-release this album, Warner Bros. Thanks!

This is one of my top 5 favorite soundtracks. The ratings here make no sense to me -- this soundtrack changed musical tastes all over the place, including mine. PNG turned me on to techno and pretty much changed my life.

My official introduction into the world of electronic music...eventhough I unknowingly already owned a few electronic dance music albums of sorts prior to this. Argurably, the very first full-on electronic music soundtrack for a movie ever...a very good one at that...featuring the many various phases of electronica in general.

The movie itself...pretty off-beat, and requires a bit more attention then your average film, didn't do as well as Paramount anticapated...leaving it's director/animator (Ralp Bakshi) forever scarred from the film industry so it seems...not to mention, rumors going around that the film was "botched" and there was about an extra 40 minutes of recording cut/edited and shelved from the original tape.

The weirdness and the themes of the movie itself are sort of self-explanatory why such an eccentric soundtrack was produced for it: The synth pop of David Bowie/Nile Rodgers to Thompson Twins and New Order's Electronic...the industrial slease of the Thrill Kill Kult...Moby's big break with the classic rave-up "Next Is The E" and "Ah-Ah"...the latter sounding as a wild, animated track written for the film...the same luck as well for The Future Sound of London, who's breakbeat rush "Papua New Guinea" seems a bit out of place, but however the track maintains the theme of strangeness and other-worldliness. A few more artists associated with electronic music community in various ways make appearances as well (ie: Brian Eno, Ministry, Philip Steir). A perfect introduction.
