Reviews & Discussion

Review by point. Aug 10, 2008
Strut returns with astonishing set full of rare delicious disco/electro masterpieces!
In spite of 20-30 years old they are still pretty actual and definitely kicks modern disco-followings asses like The Rapture, Cazals, Simbian Mobile Disco and LCD Soundsystem.
Right the way to Kitsune compilations ;)
As for Gina X Performance she goes under number 8 without any doubts. Her dark-disco Kaddish full of Jewish lyrics: "Moisha is dying".
If you like disco it should be in your collection since it shows clearly who are real disco roots.
You've got 5 balls from me!

There are some excellent lost gems on here, most notably Konk's "Your Life" and "Sharevari" by A Number of Names. But I bought this release for the full version of the awesome, powerful 80's electro-disco, legend of a track that is "Kaddish" by Gina X Performance.

But this release will only get 2.5 out of 5 from me, as no matter how much the other tracks grow on me, I will always remember it for the bitter disappointment of putting on track 8 and firstly thinking it sounded rather different, then realising that Kaddish is not really on the album at all!

GUTTED!

For anything that gets a full commercial release these days, I find these irksome schoolboy errors unforgiveable :(

How can you put the wrong tracknames on the f'ing sleeve?!!!
