These kind of compilations were huge in the early to late '90s.

As a young teenage fan of music, these cds taught me a lot about the dance scene and it's main characters. Yes, you could say that there was a lot of cheesy fluff in amongst the true anthems but that in itself gave you a distinct taste for the music you truly like. As a 14 year old I learnt that my favourite genre is trance, thanks to tracks like Dance to Trance - Take A Free Fall and the Hardfloor remix of RHC - Fever Called Love.

Other tracks of mention here are obviously Mr. Vain, The Key The Secret, Ooh I Like It and the awesome 2 Unlimited megamix, but the one track that I mostly remember this cd by is the beautiful, trancey club tune Love Is Blind by Echora. Pretty much unknown even to this day, this track sounds every bit the anthem that Open Your Mind, Passion, San Trancisco etc were.

Nowadays it's all to easy to look back with a laugh at these cds from our youth, be happy that our musical tastes have developed and appreciate the fact we have realised what lifeless Woolworths / HMV / Our Price unit shifters they truly were.

However, they also taught us about dance music in an open and modest way. Like having a selection of cheeses on a plate, a small portion of each one to sample.

Just think of all the artists you discovered from cds like this.
