Everybody should know that Atlantic Records is one of the greatest in the biz. This collection centers on the '70s and '80s - one of their "golden ages". A varied palate of remixers (some superstars, some underground faves) provide the updates here. My personal best from this: That Kid Chris turning "Rapper's Delight" into a dubby, funked-out groove; Paul Simpson taking the Spinners' "Could It Be..." in a more contemporary feel that should be at home with the adult R & B stations; Stonebridge workin' "I Want Your Love" into a modern disco classic (yes, this mix lead to Roger Sanchez's cover); Tommy Musto uniting with Phreek for another neo-disco romp; David Morales giving Modern Romance a sleek new instrumental; MAW doing what they do best for Linda Clifford and Slave; the infamous Ramp remix of "Thinking Of You", one of my possibly all-time top 10 jams; and, on the bonus disc, the rare J. Peters' rub of Aretha. It's only a matter of time before more classics are remade, along with more recent hits.
