Various ‎– House Hallucinates Pump Up London Volume One

Genre:

Notes:
This first and only volume of House Hallucinates, a compilation of deep, experimental & acid house material licensed from Trax Records, goes by slightly different names depending on when & where it was released. The UK release on A&M subsidiary Breakout was House Hallucinates - Pump Up London Volume One. The European release on PIAS subsidiary LD was House Hallucinates: Pump Up Europe. The US release on A&M subsidiary Vendetta was House Hallucinates - Pump Up The World Volume One. Another UK edition on indie label Westside had a different title, We Call It Hallucinates, and inexplicably omitted "Phuture Will Survive" from the CD edition.

Jack Frost - 'Clap Me' (C3) is my fave Jack Frost(aka Adonis) Acid track.

This version of 'Clap Me' is around two mins longer than the version that appears on Trax Records, not to mention being a much better pressing!!

For historians of electronic music, the purchase of this compilation would be justified because of the inclusion of the first two tracks, often deemed as the pieces which gave birth to what we refer to today as acid house: Sleezy D's "I've Lost Control" and Phuture's "Acid Tracks". As if those twenty two minutes were not enough to shake your world around twice, there is a ton more goodies here!
I'll Never Let You Go is so smooth with a floating melody which gives such a tranquil touch to the music, with xylophone chords as a nice addition as well. Jack The Bass is an old school house warehouse banger, with a menacing vocal going, you guessed it, jack the bass!
Maurice Joshua's This Is Acid is another golden acid house gem, with squelching 303s layed over some cool vocals where a guy talks about the whole acid movement, giving you acid and explaining why is this the ultimate acid track. As Acid Turns is a pretty minimal thumping tune, with a constantly morphing acid line present the whole time, and some randomly thrown in vocals about God almighty knowns what. Well done, the acid synths are particularly impressive.
Pump Up London is another slamming old school classic, with funky vocals and great 303s, even the beat is faster than on the other tracks here, which makes this a real club anthem. The last track has gentle piano keys colliding with the acid lead. Another great blast from the past.
My general opinion is that you can enjoy this one a lot even if you were not born when these tunes rocked warehouses and underground clubs. If you were there, then you will most probably hunt this release down, play it until your hi-fi system wears out and then ask to be buried with it. But I guess good music has no time or place, so maximum enjoyment is guaranteed to all who come across this one - and trust me, some of the key tracks for further development of electronic music are to be found "We Call It Hallucinates". Old school historians and collectors, you really do need this!

Classic acid house on this record. While there is debate about what was the first acid house track, the two most commonly cited 'first' examples just happen to be the first two tracks on this album, I've Lost Control and acid Trax.
As well as some of the darker, more minimalistic tracks such as the ones mentioned, the album also has some more upbeat tracks such as Mr Lee's club hit Pump Up London and Jack The Bass.

This double gatefolds release is the best one ! Graham Tunna & Jeremy Pearce made a wonderfull psychedelic design cover sleeve. When u open it u can also see a big " ACID". They also added inside the covers, if u take time to look , a serie of printed green pills & E's. These attentions & details are only on the UK release. Not on the similar U.S.A. edition.
I can also mention there was many releases of this Trax Records compilation, with different names : House Allucinates - Pump Up London ; House Allucinates - Pump Up Europe (different cover sleeve); House Allucinates - Pump Up The World & We Call It Allucinates on Westside Records.

I was hearing about this stuff called Acid House back in 1988-89. Being a sucker for happy faces which i completely got wrong but found love anyways. I wanted to hear the stuff for myself. Straight to this one then. I felt the world turn inside out many times over with all the instrumental tracks here. We know them love them, still bang em. Recollections of Moodymann dropping Jack Frost last time I heard him.
