This release would have to be amongst the best compilations I own. The mood is distinctly leftfield lounge, which isn't surprising given the presence of Lisa Carbon (Atom Heart), Jimi Tenor and The Gentle People, among others. Brandi Ifgray's track led me to his album Stargazer, a masterpiece of cool electronic jazz. Some of the best tracks are by relatively obscure acts: who or what is Pepper Mind? Their final track, As If It Were '91, sounds EXACTLY like a house track from '91! I Want More! It's now 10 years old, but In-Different still sounds fabulous and contemporary. Other releases in this series by Lab Records all have a similarly distinctive vibe from contemporary downtempo, but this first volume is my favourite. Shame we don't hear any more from this label.
