Boccaccio represented a hot spot for the young generation of Belgian electronic dancers. The mega club counted on a two and a half thousand dancers, hypnotized by the infectious ambiance of the New Beat sounds. This musical movement was based on a naked synthesis of pop house, acid influences, euro-disco and electronic body music, with a very slow BPM. According to them, “the tempo was cast down so low that the vibrations were close to a heart stopping. The sensuous reverberations created by these sound waves caused a big impact on the dancefloor. Every Sunday night, people from cities all over Belgium, as well as Holland, France and even Germany, felt the beat of the Boccaccio. The club will remain forever on the memories of those who danced there on the golden times as a “massive mirrored place of glitz, a garish temple to the laser and, as the clock crawled toward daylight, an enormous neon-lit sauna”.
This megamix single had two medley masterpieces of the most amazing new beat tunes (and artists) of that time: Jolly Roger, Confetti’s, Major Problem, Tyree, Lords of Acid and Dirty Harry & Miss Nicky Trax’s tunes, just to mention some of the names. The interesting part is that in the middle of the music some samples of other classics were inserted, which means many other fragments of music made part of the megamixes, not only the written at the back cover. “The Boccaccio Mix” counted on some hits, such as “Cocaine (The biggest illegal export)”, “D Bop”, “The Sound of C” and even “Ibiza”, played all over the World, and other more less known tunes like “Acid Queen” or “I do Anything”. However, the “Smiley’s Acieed Mix” had a more underground approach, with a more obscure ambiance and the TB 303 Acid House influence on the repertoire: some good examples can be noticed on the tracks such as “Acid Man”, “Acid Over”, “Acid in the House” and Lords of Acid’s massive hit “I Sit On Acid”. Don't miss the chance to find it!
