Reviews & Discussion

Review by SounthRecords Mar 27, 2008
I'm always a bit sceptical about using classical elements in 'modern music'. Sometimes it results in something fresh, and sometimes it results in something objectionable. Neva by Virus Syndicate is a perfect example of the last category. They used a fragment of Bach's second Orchestral Suite (Badinerie) and cut it on a completely illogical moment. They repeated this fragment, now and then with a few more notes, now and then with some reversed notes, but in the whole arrangement it's leading to nowhere.

Badinerie is one the most famous classical pieces, due to the cheerful character of it. But even if you don't know this piece, you can't appreciate Neva. Neva is a musical disgrace and for me it's a big question why people should call this IDM. I can't point out one single intelligent element.
