Reviews & Discussion

Review by Jan 22, 2008
I only heard about half of the "Saint-Germain-Des-Prés Café" series and I have to say this is the worst one they've put out by far. The first disc has about 10 tracks in a row that all contain a simple piano bar riff and after the first 3 tracks it begins to get boring already. Just because a techno track has piano in it, doesn't make it jazzy. Surprisingly, one of the better tracks on disc one is the Kevin Yost track, which has appeared on a lot of none Nu-Jazz compilations as well. There's nothing that grabs hold of me in this disc either overal. Unlike V.6 which had about 6 killer tracks that I kept repeating over and over.
Disc two, French In Nu Jazz, is nothing special as well and again, as a double disc this one was very disappointing. This compilation did expose me to wanting to hear a couple of new artists, which is a compilations intent but, to many vocal tracks on this comp and not enough jazz, imo.
