The third Allstars outing has four contributions by some of the dubstep scenes most revered producers, but in my eyes/ears it is completely and utterly dominated by the friendly ghost himself; Caspa.
'Rubber Chicken' is just plain mental. It makes me laugh so hard everytime I play it. You have to understand at this point that I am laughing with incredulity, not simply humour.
I never though it would be possible to get so much wobble out of a bassline, it really does verge on the ridiculous. Of course there are other tracks of the past 12 months or so that make pure jelly of the bass; such as Skream's remix of DMZs' 'Ancient Memories' and N-Type's 'Square Off' to name but two.
But Caspa's 'Rubber Chicken' more than lives up to its name.
Utilising a nifty sample from Larry Clark's controversial 'Kids', Caspa introduces himself to the listener before unleashing an half step assault of sub sonics that creep, twist and generally upset the neighbours. But, wait...what's this? After the breakdown, we are told that Caspa is going to "slow it right down", which he does. But it must have been this point when he upped sticks from his bedroom and decided to finish the tune on a bouncy castle because the bass just goes spastic. Imagine a fleet of helicopters taking off at different times, and then slowing the rotors riiiiiight down until all you can hear is the whumpf, whumpf, whumpf; inject a little tectonic plate activity and throw in a dash of amplfied pylon and you are getting close to the essence of 'Rubber Chicken'.
Quite simply this tune is utterly brilliant. Definitely a "WTF" moment, but surely it will be assigned to the vaults of dubstep as a classic moment within the genre.
