Reviews & Discussion

Rated 5/5
Review by Josephschembri Aug 15, 2005 (edited 18 days ago)
One of my favourite volumes from this legendary series. Contains lots of early favourite Hardcore tracks of mine and of most certainly. Some tracks are described below:

Nonshelen Tustokken - with its crazy Rob Gee’s vocals, that distorted deafening guitar and a smashing bassdrum it surely was one of the hardest tracks when released. Certainly a track your parents and your neighbours never liked :)

At War - with its screaming “low spirit s**k my c*ck” and that distorted bassdrum this tune became an anthem which is still liked today.

Moby’s “Thousand”. This track features that famous “oooohhhyeeaah…” sample over a beat which starts very slowly and then increases tempo to one thousand BPM (hence the name), then slows down and again accelerates to one thousand. Early hardcore producers seemed to like the trick of pitching up and down the tempo. Today this trick seems no longer used in productions, but in those days it certainly worked and drove people crazy! Hardcore Divine and Block Mig (also on this CD) use this trick too.

Block Mig Ud. This track has some unintelligible words and a speeding tempo as described previously. When you think it’s over it starts again faster than before, making this my favourite on this release.

Here’s Johnny – that famous “Bow Chi Bow” vocal made this one of the hardcore classics of all time. This track was remixed in 1996 and found a place on Thunderdome 12.

Ilsa Gold’s “Up” – this hard trance/hardcore crossover was hugely popular, both as a club track and as a gabber track. It starts with a trance beat, in the middle then comes a hardcore beat, but after a while it switches again to the trance beat.

El Gallinero – I consider Ramirez as one of the greatest pioneers of dance music. They made from Eurohouse to Techno to Trance and Hardcore. El Gallinero needs no introduction. That funny cock (rooster) sample was found in no other track, and the remix here has 2 different drum patterns.

Another track which was very successful back then is Bonzai Channel One. Never actually fancied this track, somehow don't like its sound. Doh!

Fuckin’ Hostile – this fuckin' hard record certainly put Lenny D on the map of gabber music. One of the first Terror records ?

Soushkin – again this is a Hardcore/Trance crossover which was also very popular. Famous for the sample "yeeeeehaah".

The 303 sound is certainly not missing on this release. Most evident probably on Hydrochloric – very thick and fast acid sound throughout.

Enough said – go get and listen ;-)
