Various - Voodoo Roux Deux

A classic release for three reasons: tracks 2, 7 & 8. Deep Dive Corp's "Relaxer" is by far the best thing about their _Blackmail Recordings_ album. Spooky, creepy, ethereal downtempo with a massive bassline. "wave upon wave carried me over, beyond the peripheries of hope and fear." Good stuff. The Moon Runner mix of XIS's "Sun Walker" is a significant improvement over the original (which appeared on the first Voodoo Roux). The string pad melody reminds me of Cabaret Voltaire's "Exterminating Angel." Closing out the album is Bjorn Fogelburg's magnum opus, the epic "Six Five One Oh." It's a slow builder starting, but it peaks in a thunderstorm (well, by ambient dub standards) of cold pads, almost-acid noises and the increasingly-repeated spoken title sample. A masterful track to close out this album.

A very fine follow-up. Check out the incredibly sensuous "Sleep at the Swamp" from Korea's Potlatch. This track alone is worth the price of admission. Received a glowing review in the final issue of "Pulse" magazine before Tower pulled their plug.

weak. which is a shame, waveform is usually much better than this. "voodoo roux" the original is great, but this is pretty much boring.
