There was once a time when techno music embodied several styles and had no limits to what was committed to a track. It could be anything from ambient to hardcore and it could all be contained within a track! This 12" doesn't quite reach that extreme but let me just say - I like it a LOT! Side 1 is fairly straight-ahead Berlin techno without too many innovations but it is a very good dancefloor stomper. But I really like Side 2! It's not blow-you-away innovation at its finest but it's just really nice melodic ambient when ambient was still considered cool. I think the techno underworld tired too quickly of ambient and cast it off before its time. I remember when you went outside at the big "parties" (now "events") and there was a special DJ set up who spun nothing but ambient music for the "chill-out area". I liked it as much as the "main room" area because of the ambient music played in that area, and let's face it - you could meet nice people and actually talk because the chill-out zone was chill. Quietude is key to rounding out a party. This record (side 2) fills that void. It's nice and relaxing, and what's wrong with that? And if you're into analog synths like I am, you'll appreciate what you're hearing. A great useful early techno release. I encourage a listen.
