The live raw mix of Don't Laugh is where the action is at! Over eight minutes of tweaking, hypnotic twisting and bending acid leaking over a surprisingly simple yet steady bass line and kick, accompanied by one of the most menacing and deviant laughs ever layed on a piece of electronic music.
It may just be ultimate Josh Wink classic, though it has been over played no matter how you look at it. Wink is known to drop an atomic dance floor monster every once in a while, but Don't Laugh was just bar none back in its day!
The acapella version is excellent for DJs who just feel like playing around with the great laugh, and mixing it with other tunes, which I've heard done to marvellous effect quite a few times.
The long Junior dub remix by Junior Vasquez is great mainly due to a fantastic break, and an introduction of a huge wailing siren right after it - pure club mayhem! Though the absence of the original acid synth and the timeless laugh leave me for a lot to desire, all in all this is quite a release to own, and essential for DJs, as everything on this 12" is very effective on the dance floors.

While the original track really hit the street, the rest of this release doesn't contain much to make it live forever as a whole. Nowadays i can only play the short version - if at all.

A masterclass in building a minimal acid/techno tune from bassline up. Considering it pretty much consists of one bassline, a bassdrum, hi hats, 1 synth noise and a sample of a maniac laughing it is very effective.

Oh my God, 1995 was the year that you could just not get away from Josh Wink no matter where you went - even my "cowtown" did not have a night without "Don't Laugh", "How's the Music", or (cue anticlimatic drum roll) "Higher State of Consciousness" ("tweakin' funk" mix or whatever.)

Not that this was a bad track, but I must confess that even 10 years later, I don't particularly care to hear it again. One good thing about aging is that you're only exposed to one generation of overplayed club hits...

Who could forget the mind boggling forever looping filtered laugh so beautifully crafted by Josh Wink! If you were dancing in 1995, you were definitely laughing along!
