Scott Columbus

Real Name:Walter Scott Columbus
Profile:

Scott was born on November 10, 1956 in Fair Haven (New Haven), CT, USA and he began to play the drums at the age of 6.

In his own words Scott was part engineer, part producer and a whole lot of drummer.

Scott first appeared on the second album of Manowar (Into Glory Ride) in 1983.

A furiously aggressive left-handed drummer, Scott played the so-called "Drums of Doom", a kit made of stainless steel, because his drumming technique was really too heavy, too rough on standard kits which had to be replaced too regularly.

Scott Columbus first left Manowar at the very end of 1989 leading into 1990. Manowar claimed it was because his son had leukemia. Scott stated in an interview with Classic Rock magazine in 2010: “I can just tell you and the world that my son was never sick. So you can deduce from that what you may. However, that’s what I’ll tell you [concerning the official statement].”

Scott left Manowar for the second time about April 2008 when, according to Scott Mr. DeMaio [Joey DeMaio, Manowar bassist/mainman] and Scott agreed to disagree on a few points of interest. More than two years later in 2010 the picture of Scott was still on the Manowar website and Manowar declined to comment. Scott confirmed the reasons for the split to be personal, financial and musical.

Scott was the longest-serving Manowar drummer.

Scott Columbus died on April 4, 2011 and for many years his death remained a mystery.

On April 5, 2020, Columbus' daughter Teresa publicly announced that her father's cause of death was suicide and mentioned mental illness and depression. Former Manowar guitar player Ross The Boss has stated the same in interviews and partly blamed Manowar (Joey DeMaio) for the depression and alcohol problems of Scott mentioning lack of support.
