Alexis Korner

Born April 19, 1928 in Paris but settled 1936 in London. Became blues enthusiast after stealing a single. His musical career started with engagements with Chris Barber and Ken Colyer as guitarist and singer. In 1956 Korner met Cyril Davis with whom he founded Blues Incorporated to play 'real' blues with no compromises - maybe the first british blues band. The band's now famous for had being a platform from that many very famous careers start as those of Mick Jagger, Jack Bruce, Charlie Watts any many others. Blues Incorporated disbanded in 1967 after Davis had left already in 1962. The following years saw Korner in many bands, most of them not long living: Free At Last, New Church and Snape. Since the late 60's he toured often in Duos - for instance with Peter Thorup but mostly with bassist Colin Hodgkinson. Aside of that Korner was in the late 70's more known as Radio-DJ though continued to record - merely from time to time. Recordings in fall 1983 seems to point in a new direction for Korner musical developement. But unfortunately he died from cancer on January 1, 1984. His son Damian Korner is also a musician.
