Anssi Hohti, also known as Allende, is arguably something of an undiscovered gem within the realms of trance and progressive trance. He first came to my attention when I heard his remix of Eddie Sender’s ‘Aum Gasana’, a versatile reinterpretation of a very strong original production. Airy, atmospheric and dreamy, Anssi also incorporates a deep, rolling bassline and sparky synths into his reworking whilst retaining the sublime melody of the original. Another recent remix, a beautiful reworking of Jussi Polet’s ‘High Alley View’, served to justify my initial interest; once again, that deep groove was present, in addition to some gentle, glistening and insistent melodies and sweeping atmospheres. Nevertheless, his individual productions alone more than merit one’s undivided attention; personal favourites include the gliding ‘Retrograde’, with its playful keys and funky rhythms and ‘Solar Wind’ (under his a98 alias), with its almost continuous, incredibly catchy melody. Indeed, with more individual productions and remixes, I have no doubt that the young Finn will be regarded as one of the genre’s brightest stars. And may that star shine brightly for a long time to come.
