Amalgamation Of Soundz, The

Almagamation Of Soundz

Real Name:
Mark Hartbottle & Jean-Claude Thompson
Profile:
Jean-Claude and Mark met each other in 1990. Since then they have worked together under the name "The Amalgamation Of Soundz", having released plenty of 12"s on different labels such as Filter, Ubiquity & Airtight. They both have lived in London for many years now and are long-time members of the local underground dance scene, and highly-rated DJs as well. Having a residency at Fabric and also being heavily booked by trendy underground clubs and bars such as The Clinic, Met Bar in London as well as at many different clubs all over the planet, their DJ-Sets are always a very enjoyable journey into the leftfield beats area. Besides dj-ing and producing Jean-Claude works at the shop "Release The Groove Records", London's first address when it comes to quality dance music. There he commands the jazz and electric beats section, using his assurance and encyclopaedic knowledge to persuade the punters to buy vinyl on his terms.

Reviews & Discussion

Review by Risingson Jun 11, 2005 (edited over 4 years ago)
Always interesting and sometimes unforgettable, these pair of eclectics have been releasing downtempo, in many of its variations, during ten years, leaving great tracks in compilation albums, which makes it really difficult to follow their track. Their two albums are quite good, though one feels that they are a collection of songs lacking a really consistent mood. Because what trascends from The Amalgamation Of Soundz is some songs which are among the best electronica: the epic batucada "Batunova Scat", the sweet "Enchant me", the sexy "Cat in the rain", the iconic "Keyvan's Paper" - Saint Germain in all their albums have not been able to release anything better than this house and jazz... amalgamation -, the ethnic "Tears for Jadz"... and their amazing mixes. And their DJ sets. Only some tracks which follow the unadventurous "lounge chillout" lead somehow lower their caché. But it is SO unfair that not many people knows them...
