| Profile: | Anji Bee is a singer/songwriter, podcaster, artist, former college DJ, and music writer from Los Angeles. Over the past decade, she has worked with many bands and musicians including Rom Di Prisco (as Bitstream Dream and Machineries of Heaven), Chukimai (as Plastic Chair), Dminor, Beauty's Confusion, War-n Harrison (of Hungry Lucy), and many others. Since 1999, Bee has been collaborating with Ryan Lum (of Projekt Records top selling ethereal artist, Love Spirals Downwards) under the moniker, Lovespirals. Not only does Bee compose the lyrics and vocal melodies for the band, but she also creates all of the artwork for the band's CDs and website, plus handles the bulk of the band's publicity and online persona. To date, Lovespirals have released 2 full-length albums, an EP, and numerous singles. An early adopter of podcasting, Bee initiated the "Chillin' with Lovespirals" band podcast in June 2005. That same year, Bee founded the band's own label, Chillcuts, for the release of Lovespirals' sophomore album, "Free and Easy." In 2006, she launched the "The Chillcast with Anji Bee" on Adam Curry's Podshow Podcast Network, featuring downtempo, electrolounge, and other chill out music, mostly by independent bands. Bee's music has been included on television, cable, film, and video games, as well as on radio, podcasts, and websites. Her vocal style combines a jazzy sensuality with soulful ethereality and has been compared to Sade, Astrud Gilberto, Liz Frasier, and Tracey Thorn. |
