Uriel was a cover band until Steve Hillage left for college. The band continued on as a trio and became more Soft Machine influenced and recorded a few demos and changed the name to Egg.

Hillage started sitting in with the band again at gigs and they landed a deal to record an album, done under the pseudonym Arzachel with the band using fake names and bios because of contractual obligations. Egg's first album came shortly after that.

Hillage went on to join Gong and Egg continued on without him. Hillage and Dave Stewart later hooked up again for the Khan 'Space Shanty' album.
