Reviews & Discussion

Review by Apeman Sep 06, 2007
The greatest band that ever lived, regardless of genre era and current trends. 'tis true, and there will never be anyone like them for a long time to come.

These guys are the true pioneers in rock, pop and even experimental, dance and electronica (hear 'Tomorrow Never Knows' for the blueprint of many of The Chemical Brothers' Big Beat era songs and 'Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite!' and 'Revolution #9' for early uses of sampling)

RIP John Lennon and George Harrison, and let your legacies live on forever

The Beatles, like no other group, were able to weld experimental ideas into popular music. "Tomorrow Never Knows" (1966) was the first pop song to make use of tape loops. During the recording of Revolver, McCartney began entering the studios with bags full of reels of tape loops he had experimented with at home. Lennon later brought the idea as far as possible with the White Album's "Revolution 9".

From Brian Eno's popularization of looping effects in the 70's to today where it has become an almost cliche production technique, it was the Beatles who pioneered the then radical idea, along with so many others. Any lover of electronic music is indebted to the Beatles.
