Ben Sage

Ben Sage

Real Name:
Benjamin Sage
Profile:
Born in London, Canada, and raised on punk rock and hip-hop with some rave/techno/trance sounds, Ben was initially the drummer in a punk band, but he quit due to tendonitis. He started DJing in 1996 at the age of 17. After briefly spinning hip-hop, he got into drum'n'bass with ragga and jump-up styles. He DJed at bars, parties, and small venues, and lost interest after realizing he sounded like all other DJs in the area.

Ben initially declined to go to college, later enrolling to learn music production, where he found a renewed interest in drum'n'bass. It was during his college years he released his first song, "All About You," on UK's Gain Recordings. From there, he has has been producing and remixing songs with regularity. With his focus shifting strongly towards the production of his own material, he has decided to stop accepting DJ gigs.

Reviews & Discussion

Review by deejsasqui Dec 07, 2005 (edited over 6 years ago)
Call me a lover of pop music, but I really like Ben Sage's work. Sure, in some lights he might be making Drum'n'Bass more "accessible" with soft female vocals, some trance-like melodies wafting through, but there are still ominous, growling basslines and it all works well in my ears. And when was accessibility a bad thing? I don't think d'n'b will ever go as mainstream as trance and pop/eurohouse is, and all artists need to make money somehow.
