The band's story begun when Alexis Korner met Cyril Davis in 1956 and both agreed to go together to play 'real' blues with no compromises. When they also decided to use amplification (10 Watts shared between both) the Blues Inc. became Britain's first electric R&B-band.
Instead of being a stable ensemble the band is now more famous for had being a platform from that many very famous careers start as those of Mick Jagger, Jack Bruce (Cream), Charlie Watts, Dick Heckstall-Smith (Colosseum) any many others. And many more, we know today as the sixties and seventies superstars have played and jammed with these band as young guys (i.e. Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, Brian Jones, Ginger Baker, Graham Bond a.s.o.).
In the beginning gigs were hard to acquire since the scene was ruled by trad-jazz clubs who mostly dislike electric blues. So Korner and Davis decided to opened their own club. But R&B gained more and more popularity in Britain, and so until 1962 Blues Inc. became a residence at the legendary Marquee Club in Soho. In the same year Davis left for differences with Korner regarding the musical conception.
Despite his fame as live act, it's regular appearings on the radio and the the beginning stardom of many ex-members Blues Inc. never gain much commercial success. In the last years the band were seen as house band for children's show on TV (where Korner also was the musical director). Regular members at this time were Terry Cox and Danny Thompson of later Pentangle. Finally in 1967 Korner discontinue to use the name Blues Incorporated again.
