Bohren & Der Club Of Gore

Profile:
Founded - 1986 in Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany.

Originally a heavy metal act, since members were originally in various hardcore and grindcore acts like Chronical Diarrhoea and Macabre Farmhouse. Before they officially became Bohren & Der Club Of Gore they published two 7" records under the name of 7 Inch Boots.

The first real "Bohren" release was a 1993 demo tape called "Luder, Samba und Tavernen Demo".

Reviews & Discussion

Bohren & der Club has frankly become one of my top 3 bands. Blending elements of just about every type of record I know. For anyone that is even into Exotica music, I could even recommend certain pieces of this bands' work.

Searching for their vinyl has proven to be a quest, but generally these records are not at all boring. I would suggest these to anyone who is bored of music and wants to hear something completely bleak yet surreal. Twin Peaks fans will definitely latch onto Bohren's deep drones.

On a side note: Please check out Dale Cooper Quartet & the Dictaphones. An amazing project from possibly France.

B&DCoG are from Germany and while they are not famous worldwide (not yet), selected (and lucky) few know about their brand of "horror-jazz". This is the sort of music that You can drown in, so to speak - slow, seductive and quite spooky in many aspects. In a way, it reminds me of the music produced by Aussies Dirty Three with only difference being the fact that violin is replaced with saxophone. This is definitely not Your average FM jazz, nor it is any close to Kenny G brand of new age boredom.
