Pure mentalist.
Some considered his acid/trancecore a bit over the top. But for many, when it came to intense screaming 303 abuse, Choci was the man through the mid-90's. Among his 7 labels, Choci continued to pump out a diverse array of hard dance while working with DJ Mishka, all of the Stay Up Forever Collective, Solar Quest and hard house/NRG/hardcore pioneers like Jon Doe, Andy Allder and Billy Daniel Bunter.
Virtually all of his material on Choci Chewn's have become highly sought after demanding high prices as the blitz of pure-class acid in the early releases have been unmatched.
He could always be spotted mucking around in his shop and banging his head against the wall while blasting some Acid Junkies! One night in '91 he was due on after Sasha. Sasha was playing to a strictly hardcore club and was spinning stuff like Whitney Houston remixes. Choci was standing behind him dancing like a pilled up lunatic does listening to gabber. He was just larking around and giving full on "Wanker" gestures right behind Sasha's head. Sasha got off the decks and Choci grabbed the mic and shouted "who wants some f*cking Hardcore? Some f*cking proper music; none of this f*cking poofta nancy boy sh*t you just heard!"
Everybody was either cheering loudly or pissing themselves silly.
His certifiable insania can be found in the batty messages etched in his CC releases.
Some of the VCF stuff sound a bit dated and slightly cheesy now due to some of the synths. But much of his eclectic CC material will always be timeless. Choci slowly faded away due to a combination of the the majority of the hard dance/trance scene moving in a different musical direction in the late 90's along with a plain and simple shortage of new ideas. He now spins more straight-away German trance.
I can never stop myself from throwing in atleast one squealchy Choci acid rocker in my sets ten years later. Long live the Chewns!!
