Real Name:Paul Lemos, Joe Papa, Chris Moriarty
Profile:Prolific, versatile and experimental, Controlled Bleeding's sound varies from album to album and has contained elements of dub, free jazz, noise, prog rock, sacred music, dark ambient, classical and musique concrète. To their own detriment, the group has never cared much about generating or maintaining an audience, but relies instead on spontaneous inspiration. Formed in Boston, 1978 originally as an instrumental band (oft-described as an amalgam of The Ramones and The Mahavishnu Orchestra) their frequent line-up changes resulted in sole constant member Paul Lemos' solo experiments with cacophonous noise, as documented on and early cassette releases. Encouragement in these endevours led to the resurrection of Controlled Bleeding and the recruitment Chris Moriarty and Joe Papa (both of whom had played in an earlier incarnation of the band before its implosion) who would record the infamous "Knees And Bones" album; an exercise in sheer noise that utilised pneumatic drills, metal percussion and cement mixers as sound sources. Further albums delved into sonic and textural experimentation, and the band gradually grew more sophisticated with time, although a number of less experimental, commercial industrial albums were released upon the band's signing to Wax Trax! in the late 1980s. Paul Lemos and Chris Moriarty also dabbled in side-projects Joined At The Head, Skin Chamber (aka Fat Hacker) and solo projects. Moriarty left in the early 1990s but the band continued, recording consistently until the year 2000. In more recent years, renewed interest and archival releases resulted in Paul Lemos reforming Controlled Bleeding as a live band.

Chris Moriarty passed away in March 2008.
