The D.O.C was originally from Dallas, Texas. His group, The Fila Fresh Crew, came to the attention of L.A. producer Dr. Dre following a visit he made to Texas to visit a friend who had just moved there.
In 1989 The D.O.C cut a solo album with Dr. Dre called 'No One Can Do It Better'. This album is widely heralded as a classic. He also ghostwrote many of the Eazy E's lyrics for his solo work and for his work with N.W.A.
Sadly The D.O.C was involved in a car crash in the early 90's that left him with a crushed larynx. This put his career on hold for many years and he was unable to capitalise on the success of his first album.
He has since released a comeback album that, although well-received, did not sell the units his undoubted talent deserves.
He continues to be a behind-the-scenes force in West Coast hip-hop.
