D.J. Scot

Real Name:
Frank Zenker
Profile:
Scot Project is one of those rare artists whose musical style is clearly recognizable throughout the dance music world. His signature sound has helped create the harder side of the Trance genre, with unique combination of hard percussive elements mixed with melodic trance rhythms, he has become one of the most successful DJs/Producers in the global dance music.

Over the past few years Scot Project has created waves around club-land with appearances at Godskitchen, Gatecrasher, Slinky, Global Gathering, Homelands, Dance Valley, Avalon, Goodgrief, and many more major festivals and clubs worldwide.

Learning to mix at the age of 13, Scot Project got his first break in 1986 playing break-beat in a youth club. When the acid house movement hit in 1988 Scot Project was hooked. By 1990 he was a resident of several clubs in and around Frankfurt and was spending his pay cheques on a small but potent studio.

Scot Project's first track «X» was released on Overdose in 1994 shortly after, followed closely by the hugely successful {U I Got A Feeling}, on Overdose/Positiva which charted throughout Europe. Since then Scot Project has established himself as one of the biggest producers of the harder edge of Trance genre, with a plethora of remixes and hit productions under his name including mega hits, {F Future is now}, {O Overdrive} and remixes like {second trip / Hennes & Cold}, {Cosmic gate / fire wire} {Yoji Biomehanika / Ding A Ling} and {Beam vs. Cyrus / thunder in paradise}, and other artists such as Talla 2xlc, Derb, Brooklyn Bounce and Yves De Ruyter, which stormed UK and International dance charts. He is also responsible for the project Arome with successful releases such as visions of paradise, somebody and the massive success Hands up. Scot always found time to twiddle plenty of knobs in the studio. His melodic dance floor ripper «L» (Want Your Love) booted Eric Prydz's number one tune «Call on me» off the top spot of Discomania's 2004 yearly sales chart. The tune also ousted Mylo's «Drop The Pressure» and Deep Dish's «Flashdance» from the top of the German-based chart, with both Judge Jules and Fergie nearly wearing out their copies on their Radio One shows.

2005 has been one of the best yet for Germany's undisputed tech trance master. After more than ten years of top-notch studio production and crowd-pleasing DJ sets, the dreadlocked wonder released his long-awaited artist album, «A1». The frenzied response to the tasty mix of new era productions and much-loved classics sent Scot and his record bag spinning from Kuala Lumpur to Canada to satisfy the appetites of hard trance-hungry clubbers. «A1» shows the progress of his music style, further pushing forward the evolution of the harder edge of Trance. Good examples are also remixes for Yoji Biomehanikas {Monochroma} and Yakooza..s {I Wanna Feel} and recent remixes like cocaine 2006(yakooza) , Bravheart 06, Niels van Gogh - Pulverturm 2006(kosmo records) and his unique for promotional use only series...

2007:Scot-lovers will soon be reveling in the harder edge of the Scot Project sound with the new TOCS series on his very own Druck Records. TOCS 1 (druck11) was already a promising start for another successful project.TOCS 2 (druck 019) was the banging second strike..so Watch out for TOCS 3, 4, 5 and not forget the evergrowing "for promotinal use only" series with unique remixes for Daft Punk and U2

2008 was another great year for Scot Project .with releases like S2(sueno) which was heavily supported by by ferry corsten, judge jules and countless others..followed by his great remix for public domains greatest hit operation blade, karami & lewis and his promotional use only tracks for planet funk, , nic chagall, U2 and verrachocha (which was heavily supported from Tiesto!!!)

2009 was full of great events so far , from trance enery to dance valley and planet love to even gigs like decibel and inqontrol! almost no one else can play at such diverse events like scot project can!.. on the release front F2(future is now) was released with 8 totally different remixes with a great support from trance heroes like ferry corsten, judge jules , to the tough players such as yoji , alex kidd. His remixes for dr.willis vs. vandall- tech ho, organ donors 99.9 and lisa lashes - bondage and whips .. are just as good as good as his own releases!.. the year is not over,,, so some surpises are in the work!

Scot Projects mixing is atrocious. Your lucky to hear him mix for longer than 10 seconds and all he does is kill the bass entirely before bringing in the next tune, what kind of mixing is that? As for the structuring of his sets, theyre just as bad. That Gods set for example, if it's the one at Gods 5th Birthday in Newcastle that ur on about he plays Arome - Hands Up then Banging Globe and a couple of tracks later he's playing a remix of Madagascar by Art Of Trance, yeah thats really building up the crowd! He doesnt have a clue on how to structure a set and your totally blind to it just because its this excellent producer behind the decks, playing his own tunes. Judge Jules can also mix miles better than Scot Project, you need some lessons on mixing my friend. I think Scot Projects productions are awesome, but his DJ'ing skills leave a lot to be desired. Try listening to his mate Yoji Biomehanika or Eddie Halliwell for a lesson on how to spin.

Scot Project sucked me in from the moment I heard the killer loops of his remix of Elastique Culture - U. That song made me seek out every one of his tracks. His hard sound turned me on to this genre of music and I believe he is one of the top in his genre.

DJ Scot Project has really taken people by storm, and almost every trance forums i go to, their only talking about him, but to me, every time DJ Scot makes a new song, it sounds like the last one he released, yes maybe he launched the hardtrance scene, but he never invent new ways to make hardtrance, every time i hear a track and dosent know its DJ Scot, its only takes secunds, before i know its him, always a very destroyed voice that sounds like its recorded with a cheap microfon, and added some robotic filter, and he always uses hours to build up the chorus with extremly laud drum noises, and when its finally about to start there comes a little secound of silence, with sometimes a voice that says whatever it says, and Then it starts. Also hes songs and remixes are much like the same, for me "Thunder In Paradise" and "Future Is Now" is the exect same track just with another melodi, no offence but I just think that DJ Scot Project is kind of monotonous, maybe thats why hes famous.

DJ Scot Project is the definitive hard trance producer of our time. His alternative composistions, emotive content and shear driving force, makes his music an inspiration to electronic music producers and fans. The best part about Frank, after having a chance to meet him and spend some time chatting, is that he just a normal guy who loves and makes electronic music.

Scot Project is one of the true gods of the music biz. I have had the luck to see him once live and he blew the whole club away. This guy really works his but off to create an experience other than just a regular set of songs.
If I ever reached half of the status he has i would be a very happy man!

if you had heard scot project playing at godskitchen at the arena in newcastle you would have been in awe at his skills, not just mixing but the way he built the croud up and up until the kick off of his final tune leaving tall paul an impossible job to keep the atmosphere alive.

other djs that night included fergie who was amaizing but to his best, judge jules who was his usual self, crap and lisa lashes who rocked the insomniacs turntables to oblivion but ive got to say scot was god!

I love anything that DJ Scot Project releases, and would like to say that he has a special talent for creating and definately remixing. I think his best remixes to name a few are Hennes & Cold - The Second Trip (DJ Scot Project Remix) and Elastique Culture - U (DJ Scot Project Remix), please check them out. Also check out DJ Deff for breaks and jungle. Peace

I must agree that some of the harder stuff (e.g. the "Wowowawowowa" sound in Overdrive) does sound a *little* bit chez (cheesy), but I still love it and think he did a great job with it. Plus...

He makes up for any "cheesiness" with the semi-ambiant part later (in Overdrive), then with the drum mix with the same "ambiant" section. Beautiful. For some reason this strikes a good chord in me, and it has become one of my (if not *the*) favorite songs.

Scot Project began his DJ career in 1986, in true rock 'n roll style - playing breakbeat tracks - in a youth club! Then came the beginning of the acid house scene and Scot was hooked.

Come 1990, he was a resident in several clubs in and around Frankfurt, then the European capital of high quality, progressive dance music. Around this time, Scot also started building up a small studio. With a little help from a few friends, the first Scot Project track, 'X,' was released on Overdose, closely followed by the hugely successful 'U,' on Overdose/Positiva. It wasn't long until Scot was forced to give up his residencies to play gigs in USA, Canada, Brazil, Russia and Israel.

There followed numerous gigs throughout Europe and a number of highly-regarded remixes. Perhaps the one with which the UK are most familiar is the big room track of the moment 'Firewire:' DJ Scot Project twiddles the knobs on this hard house hymn to his favourite computer programme and comes up with an anthem so mindless it truly is a thing of beauty." Mixmag April 2001. At the moment, Scot is steering away from his remix work to concentrate on the production of his new tracks and hopefully a debut album.

However, Scot likes to think of himself as different to the average German producer and categorises his music as, "a combination of hard percussive elements mixed with melodic trance melodies coming in at the break, the perfect combination of sugar and spice!"

Guaranteed to devastate the dancefloor wherever he plays, DJ Scot Project is definitely one to watch for 2001 and beyond...

Well i know for fact that i am NOT a hard trance fan!! All though i will admit that this guy basically started that genre. he does have talent at what he does and i commend him for that!!

This genre though and this type of musik, well, i mean don't get me wrong i don't hate it, no no, that would b wrong to say, but i really am not a fan of the style because it just sounds so cheese to me!

Maybe that dosn't make any sence to all of you people and that is fine, but, when i go to these hardware type raves where in one half of the rave they have locals playing the hardest techno all the way to the most bangin shit ever and then go to the other half and hear this "...OVERDRIVE!!" "NE NE NE NENENENNENE!" it just sends me insane!!!

But ay, if it's your type of thing and it makes you happy then dats cool, preferably the techno for me neday though!!! :)
