Ted Skjellum (Nocturno Culto), Gylve Nagell (Fenriz).
Originally called Black Death (releasing two death metal demos in 1987, "Trash Core" and "Black Is Beautiful") this Norwegian constellation changed their name to Darkthrone in 1988. They released two demos in '88, "Land Of Frost" and "A New Dimension". Two more demos appeared in 1989, "Thulcandra" and "Cromlech".
Darkthrone came to the world's attention with their debut "Soulside Journey" riding on the popular wave of technical thrash/death metal that was coming out of Sweden at the time (1990).
However, they had been hanging out with
Euronymous from the band
Mayhem, and went black metal with their second album "A Blaze In The Northern Sky", becoming one of the most famous and pioneering bands of the modern black metal sound. Darkthrone is along with
Burzum often mentioned as one of the most influential band of the black metal scene of all times.
