Romanian pianist and composer, born 19th March 1917 in Bucureşti, died 2nd December 1950 in Geneva.
His father being a violinist, and his mother a pianiste, he was baptised at later age, when he was old enough to learn the piano, with
George Enescu as his godfather.
Lipatti's playing was hailed as having reached the highest degree of integrity and pianistic technique, which he employed in the quest for musical perfection.
He was most appreciated for his performances of
Frédéric Chopin,
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and
Johann Sebastian Bach. His recording of
Chopin's Waltzes has remained in print since its release and has long been a favorite of many classical music-lovers.
