| Real Name: | Mick Ward, Pete Quinton, Bob Williams, Bones, Paul Hardcastle, Derek Green | | Profile: | Direct Drive was a Disco, Soul and Electrofunk act in the 80s.
When the band was founded, it consisted of 4 members: Mick Ward on bass, Pete Quinton on drums, Bob Williams on guitar and Bones playing congas. Later Paul Hardcastle applied as keyboard player, and was joined by Derek Green on vocals to make up the original lineup of the band.
After the release of 2 singles “Don’t Depend On Me” and “Time’s Running Out” on Oval records, Paul and Derek left the band to form First Light. Direct drive then used a succession of keyboard players and auditioned for a new vocalist; they picked Helen Rogers and released the track "Pass the Paper", on their own label Direct Drive Records.
In 1983, Mick Ward worked on a new Direct Drive single featuring Helen Rogers as new vocalist and released the single “In The Middle Of Spring”. Pete Quinton, Bob Williams and Bones rejoined the project in 1984. Until 1986 they released another 5 singles “Anything”, “Pass The Paper”, “I Need Some Sunshine”, “A.B.C. (Falling In Love Is Not Easy)” and “Oh Yeah!”.
Paul Hardcastle himself was no longer a member of the group, but he engineered and mixed some of their releases.
