| Profile: | Dissident is the production name of Russian based Stanislav Sevostyanikhin. Living in St.Petersburg, at the Baltic sea shore he spends most of his time slicing beats, sampling street sounds and creating trends in modern music culture. He is influenced by very different kinds of music which made possible to produce such diverse tunes sounding so surprising and sometimes truly innovative.
Musicians that inspire him are the likes of 4Hero, Photek, Alaska, Portishead, DJ Krush, DJ Vadim, Future Sound of London, Massive Attack, Kraftwerk, Prodigy, Squarepusher, Aphex Twin, Bonobo, Miles Davis, Jan Garbarek, Gary Peacock, Matrix, Cause4Concern, Adam F and many others.
Dissident started to produce electronic music in early 1996 and was techno influenced, producing slightly to Noise and Breakbeat. Then Dissident turned into dark-side and created his first drumnbass project called T.Step Collective (featuring Aspekt, Nec and MC Akim) in 1998 lately renamed to Dissonance. They had enough success in Russia, many releases and performances.
Having huge experience behind his back, he cancelled this project and started to produce solo in 2001. Dissident collaborated with different artists (Sta & Paul B, Ruffen, Bes, Uzhas and many others) making different styles. The sound that he had done was ready to take on the world scene and his first release (Technecium made with Paul B) abroad was on the famous British label Renegade Hardware in 2002. Then Dissident was signed up to the new American imprint called Fear Red with his innovative tune Fuji.
But eventually Stanislav started to bore of minimal techno sound and began to research other depths of drum&bass and care for the 'contents' of the tunes he makes. He put more acoustic instruments, deep ambient atmospheres and drum breaks in his musical output. His sound's always surprising, spanking fresh and catchy. Tunes that you can dance, but also listen to.
For today Stanislav has released three long player albums on TAM Records, a label where he’s a co-owner with Bes. Forthcoming material is scheduled for release on a different labels – Moving Shadow, Counter Intelligence, Make:Shift, Mangofunk, Scientific, Step2Zero. Dissident have played as a dj alongside Goldie, Bad Company, Fabio, Grooverider, Matrix, Ill.Skillz, Cause4Concern, LTJ Bukem, Paradox, Nookie, Seba and many others.
