Songwriter, born 15 July 1905 in Allenhurst, New Jersey, died 28 March 1974 in New York, New York.

She was a successful lyricist who collaborated with composers such as Jimmy McHugh, Jerome Kern and Cy Coleman. Among her best known songs are On The Sunny Side Of The Street (1930), The Way You Look Tonight (1936) and Big Spender (1964).

In 1971, she was the first woman to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Dorothy Fields is the daughter of vaudeville artist Lew Fields, sister of playwriters Joseph and Herbert Fields and mother of pianist David Lahm.
