Reviews & Discussion

Ususally people who hate DragonForce are pseudo-intellectual, posturing, beard-stroking twats who don't actually understand what rock/metal is about (especially power-metal). It's about energy. And DragonForce is 100% energy and they're not trying to appeal to academic hipsters. This is not guitar wankery, there's tons of musicality and emotion in this music.
I'm a total metal snob who hates most powermetal and even I like them.

I am surprised that I have not reviewed this band yet. This has to be one of the worst bands ever. Now, I will call this band power metal only because it is the one genre that this crap can relate to. I hate most power metal. Now, some bands do peak my interest, but this one does not. Dragonforce is so full of themselves, they go to the lengths of going on youtube to show off how to play their guitar solos. Anyone who plays guitar knows, that when you watch that youtube video of Herman explaining his video, you can just tell right then and there that the guy knows nothing about the guitar. He cannot explain what he does or how he does it. In fact, I believe that he just picked up a guitar one day, made some hammer-ons and pull offs, and called it good. The guy has talent, yes, but he is too blind to notice it. He thinks that he is a god of guitar shredding, when in fact, he is just a rank amateur with a lot of money. That goes the same with the rest of the band. Have you ever even sat down and listened to the drums? They produce the exact same beat over and over and over again. It is a simple snare crash, followed by a double bass beat, and then a high hat hit. It is the background of every single hit Dragonforce song. The vocals are pretty much just the same as any other power metal band. They are extremely high pitched for a male vocalist and they start to become obnoxious and irritating after 3 minutes. It really sucks that most of the songs, if not all of them, are over 4 minutes long. Now, I will give that some of the songs do grow on you after a while, but the main songs, Through The Fire And The Flames etc..., just plain suck. They are overplayed, ranked too high, and when you break them down, they are just plain garbage. Just because someone is put on Guitar Hero does not make them good. Just look at the band's popularity before the game and after. Final words: This band blows. I give them a 2/10, or a .9/5. If you are trying to find a song that has not been blown out all over the radio, just look for titles you don't recognize and who knows, you may actually enjoy them. I, however, do not.
