Even in the field of mainstream electronica, there are still musicians trying to push the envelope, warping the genre to suit their needs, from Suzuka, who hammered away at the geode of tech-house to let the gems shine through, to Matmos' cheerful usage of anything that stands still as a musical instrument (cow uterus, anybody) in their unique brand of dancefloor pop. And then, there's Eats Tapes. The notoroius acid duo of San Francisco (I caught them live once) who combined oldschool house with oddball noise, yet still managed to keep the seams from showing. Theirs is a sound worth beholding, a sound which conjures the good old days of garishly dressed ravers and giant screaming robots. Come, join their world, where everyone dresses straight out of 80's workout tapes, everyone's bingeing on lemon drops, and everybody runs the risk of getting killed by 50-foot machines of pure fucking evil. They're extending out their hands, don't turn them away, just hop on board and watch out for the death rays.
