There is only so much anger you can express. EN may have chilled over the years, but EN is about change. 'You must destroy in order to create'. Whilst it seems their later releases have lost the energy of Kollaps or Drawings of Patient OT, what this collection of records shows is progression whilst always staying true to their intention, and for that they deserve the highest respect. To see them live at their peak (for me, Haus Der Lüge), was to see music being created before your eyes out of raw materials. Awe inspiring. If you haven't heard them before, don't worry about the order in which you listen to these records. What surprises me is how the early records contain so much melody, when i first heard them they just sounded like noise. These are people who 20 years ago tried to make music out of the sound of hammers against subway walls!. It would be stupid to expect Blixa Bargeld to spend the whole of his life recording the sound of his body getting beaten up. It is much like what happened to Michael Gira and the Swans, the whole point is not about pain, it is about music. It is about expressing what cannot be said in any other way.
