An Italian band that produced Goa Trance since its beginning, and constantly evolved their sound. Over the course of the years two members left, leaving only Max Lanfranconi and Maurizio Begotti. They started producing early Goa tracks in 1992 and the track "Tribute (To Goa)" composed in 1993 was a huge success in Goa.
They truly had very unique sound. I've never heard such twirling, mesmerizing and breathtaking melodies from other artists. I don't wanna sound like an old grumpy man, but new artists should definitely check out with close ear the way Etnica programmed their synths to sound very spacey and massive. Very original sound you have to hear to understand. Only Filteria has been able to follow their footsteps, but in my opinion he hasn't quite reached the same level yet.
Etnica were great team as long as it consisted of 4 members. You can divide the members into two groups:
Max and Maurizio made little effects, sort of the main guys to make Etnica sound psychedelic and detailed.
And then there was Carlo and Andrea, the true masterminds behind those divine immortal melodies.
After Carlo and Andrea left the group, in about 1999 when Family of Light was released, the magic was gone. Etnica had sadly turned out to be yet another generic full-on tech-trance act.
Andrea has returned to the scene this year in a new group called "Arkanoydz" which is nice news.
All in all, if you wanna know why old school goa heads praise this act to the highest order, check out older tracks like vimana, nice toy or full on. Those are just a few examples, pretty much all the old tracks are superb, you can choose just about any pre-'99 track and you got a winner.
