Fall, The

Profile:
(Late 1976 to date)
Legendary post-punk band from Greater Manchester, UK.

Profile from their official website:

The Fall are, or at least have been, the best band in the world. Formed in late 1976 or early 1977, they've released around 50 singles, 25 studio albums, and well over 50 live and compilation albums (although it seems like more). In August 2004 they recorded their 24th John Peel Session.

The band has gone through numerous personnel changes over the years (there have been well over 30 different line-ups so far), and since July 2007 consists of New Musical Express Godlike Genius Award for Services to Music winner Mark E. Smith, Pete Greenway on guitar, Dave "The Eagle" Spurr on bass, Elenor Smith on keyboards, and Keiron Melling on drums.

The Mighty Fall as the Mighty John Peel used to say. If John Peel adores them then who are we, mere infidels, to argue. An acquired taste without doubt, and that taste can only be acquired when young. Fortunately i acquired it when i was 17, back in '84. I gave up on them by 1990. Let's face it, we all move on. But by then i had gathered up their entire output until 1990 - and it still dazzles today. 13 years worth of music and about 16 albums or so - a fairly impressive output.

Where to start?? 'The Wonderful and Frightening World' is probably their most musically accessible (and fantastic) but 'Dragnet' (fantastic), 'The Early Years' (fantastic) and 'Hex Enduction Hour' (fantastic) etc etc...

Shit!! just buy or steal them all.
PS. Read 'Renegade' - Mark E Smith's memories - a pub rant without the need to buy a drink
