Hailing from Gent Belgium, dj and producer Franco Cangelli made his debut with the successful 2005 release Spectre on Belgian imprint Toys For Boys. Since then he went on to release on Sushitech, Aesthetik, Seventh Sign, Persistencebit and his own imprint Mowar.
He co-founded with dj Akî Aesthetik Records back in 2006, to create a platform for techno with an edge, releasing artists such Ozka, Johan Fotmeijer, Texture, Brian James and Franco’s own technoid sounds. Mowar is his own imprint where he releases deep techno inspired by the sounds of Detroit, with artists such as himself, Lee Holman, Aubrey, passEnger, Roberto Bosco.
As a dj he’s known to be versatile playing quality house and techno in all its elegant forms, from soulful Detroit techno, jacking Chicago house, sweet and hypnotic deep house to glitchy and experimental techno and anything in between. He can even cook you up a weird, experimental set that will have you brain damaged for good. And he’s no stranger to electro… proper 808-driven electrofunk. Well… as a kid in 1984, he was a wannabe breakdancer. You do the math!
His production works are equally multi-facetted resulting in a hybrid kind of techno or house cross-fertilizing Detroit and Chicago with modern-day electronics, occasionally exploring the dark leftfield side of things. Among his biggest influences you can find Carl Craig, Daniel Bell, Autechre and childhood hero Africa Bambaataa.
