User Reviews:

Alain_Patrick, Apr 07, 2006

One of the most influential bands in the history of dance music, Fred Wesley & The JB's had a sensational team of musicians from different musical backgrounds. Fred Wesley was a trombonist and son of Big Band leader, and naturally felt in love for Jazz, much before Funk; the Soul singer James Brown, also known as the "hottest record man in show business" or "Mr. Dynamite" had Gospel / R origins, even if his band gave seminal contributions to the Funk's World; the saxophonist Maceo Parker has always been connected to Funk since its very beginning in the sixties; Bobby Byrd was the man behind the organs, or the synthesizers (does anyone remember Bomb The Bass sampling “Blow Your Head” ‘s opening?)
Gloria Lavern (Lyn) Collins was the lady singer that made us "Think (About It)", while the "Funky Drummer" John Jabo Starks' set trends forever through his break beats lines; St-Clair Pinckney’s Alto-Saxophone gave a touch of class, as well as the bass lines of Fred Thomas. Do you need any further reasons to understand why they were one of the most sampled bands on the history?
