Fudge Tunnel

Real Name:
Adrian Parkin, Alex Newport, David Ryley
Profile:
Fudge Tunnel were formed in Nottingham, UK, in 1988. The original line up consisted of Alex Newport (guitar/vocals), Mark (bass) and Adrian Parkin (drums). Later on, Mark decided to move to guitar, and so they recruited David Ryley to take up the bass. Thus, for a while anyway, Fudge Tunnel were a twin guitar four piece. Mark left afterwards, leaving Fudge Tunnel as a trio again.

Their debut album "Hate Songs in E Minor" attracted press interest after the original album artwork was confiscated by Nottingham Vice Squad. Fudge Tunnel's reputation was built around their massive guitar sound and ironic sense of humor, which didn't always endear them to the music press.

After they released their third album "The Complicated Futility Of Ignorance" they decided there was nothing more to be said and the band ceased to exist.

FT were one of the best post-Big Black noise-rock bands, many of which came and go during the period of early to mid 90s. And when I say "rock", I do mean that they played rock music, unlike, say, Bon Jovi. The music itself is punishing, mean and loud - just the way it should be, no whiny ballads or other kinds of filler. But the issue here is that they couldn't keep it together for long and were more or less over in just 5 or 6 years after working together. The same thing happened to almost all of noise rock giants of the period and those who did survived reportedly don't look and sound their best. What a shame.
