Hed Boys/Brad Hed is none other than legendary house maestro Dave Lee (Joey Negro). Dave and his production partner back in ’95, Andrew Livingstone, had already secured chart success and were well known to A&Rs across the UK. When “Girls & Boys” sparked a bidding war among labels, the guys decided to amuse themselves by keeping the identity of the Hed Boys under wraps by inventing ridiculous personas for themselves, complete with large unruly wigs, bristling moustaches & outlandish accents. Dave and Andrew, dressed in a variety of ultra silly disguises, held meetings with Deconstruction bosses masquerading as two newbie producers with a killer new dance track. Despite the silly voices and bizarre behaviour, the label signed the deal completely unaware of who the two really were and the scam worked so well, it was some time before they were discovered and revealed to the UK music press.
