Trombonist and composer active in the fields of improvised, electronic and contemporary composed music. He has recorded with Hugh Davies, Germ, Earthling, Sand, Kreepa, Band of Holy Joy, Jimi Tenor, The Meta Orchestra, Paul Dunmall's Octet and Moksha Big Band, The Barton Workshop, Apa Ini and as a solo artist. He currently has five ongoing bands/projects, these are: Sand (electro-metal-voodoo-jazz), Kreepa (instrumental-industrial-electronics), Lysn (melodic improvisation and composition with changeable line-ups), Apa Ini (free jazz grooves and tunes) and a new program of contemporary composed music for trombone. Hilary also composes music with computer based electronics, for acoustic instruments and often in dance, theatre and film productions. He has studied at Dartington College of Arts, the University of York, the Institute of Sonology and with James Fulkerson at the European Dance Development Centre in Arnhem, Netherlands. Subsequently he has worked with dance in a wide variety of ways and with many choreographers including Aurora Corsano, Vania Gala, Eva Karczag, Mary O'Donnell Fulkerson, Liisa Penti, Joao da Silva and Saburo Teshigawara. Hilary enjoys and actively takes part in the rich musical life of Amsterdam and he often organises concerts and tours in the Netherlands, UK and elsewhere. He also travels frequently - various trombones have accompanied him to many inspiring places including the Sahara Desert (1990), Dartington Hall (1990), underground raves in the UK (early '90s), the Anthroposophic "Goetheanum" (1994), Abney Park Cemetery in London (1996), Vienna Volksoper (2000), Tokyo New National Theatre (2000/2002), Stubnitz Boat (2001), burlesque cabarets in NYC (2001), Alicante Casino (2002) and Potsdam Fabrik (2004). As well as working as a musician Hilary enjoys cooking, reading, gardening and getting lost in strange places!.
